Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met Rajamma Vavathil during his trip to Kerala’s Wayanad earlier this week and a video of their interaction has gone viral on social media after it was tweeted by Congress Kerala. Rajamma, a retired nurse, was on duty at Delhi’s Holy Family Hospital, when Rahul was born on June 19, 1970. She held Rahul in her hands as a newborn soon after his birth.
In the video, Rajamma greeted Rahul Gandhi, who was seated in his car. Rajamma was simply overjoyed to see Rahul and blessed him with good wishes and love. She also presented him with a packet of sweets.
In fact, Rajamma also introduced her son to Rahul Gandhi and told him, speaking of the Congress leader, “He was born in front of me. So, before you could see him, I saw him. That position, I will not give to anybody.”
“Convey my regards to your mother,” Rajamma told Rahul Gandhi, asking about Sonia Gandhi. “I want to give you many things from my home, but you have no time, I understand,” Rajamma said as Rahul Gandhi expressed gratitude.
“You are my son. God bless you,” Rajamma told Rahul Gandhi before he left.
“The wholesome love and affection from Rajamma Amma who was a nurse at Delhi’s Holy Family Hospital where Shri @RahulGandhi was born,” Congress Kerala said in the caption of the video.
