Interim symbols in LJP spat: Chirag gets helicopter, sewing machine for Paras

The Election Commission on Tuesday informed Chirag Paswan and Pashupati Paras that it had allotted separate names and symbols to them on an interim basis. Chirag and Paras are fighting for the right to use the Lok Janshakti Party name and symbol.

The Election Commission had on October 2 barred the Chirag Paswan and the Pashupati Paras factions from using the name of Lok Janshakti Party or its symbol ‘bungalow’ till the dispute between the rival groups is settled by the poll panel.

The Election Commission informed on Tuesday Chirag Paswan he was free to use the party name Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) with the symbol of helicopter.

The Election Commission informed Pashupati Paras that he could use the party name Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party and the symbol of sewing machine.

The names and symbols have been allocated for the two factions to contest upcoming bypolls to two Assembly seats in Bihar, which will be held on October 30.

The Election Commission has yet to pass an order on which faction will get to retain the original LJP symbol.

The LJP has been in crisis since June when Paras, who is uncle of Chirag, had him removed as head of the party’s parliamentary panel. Paras was then recognised as the party’s parliamentary panel chief with support of all remaining MPs. Paras was recently sworn in as a minister in the Union government.
