Premier League: Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta involved in an ugly spat with fan after full time

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta was left frustrated after their loss against Arsenal on Wednesday, 20 April and got involved in an ugly spat with a fan on the sidelines. The incident occured after the final whistle was blown and Chelsea had lost 2-4 owing to multiple defensive errors in the field.

Incidentally, Azpilicueta faced the brunt of manager Thomas Tuchel in the press match conference after giving away a silly foul in the penalty box in the final moments of the game. The Spaniard managed to pull down Bukayo Saka in the box, conceding the penalty in extra time, that took away any remaining hopes of salvaging one point from the tie.

Azpilicueta was seen animatedly walking towards a group of spectators on the sidelines, vigorously pointing to a person. The captain seemingly got ticked off by comments from the stands, and lost his cool.

It wasn’t just Azpilicueta that lost his cool on the night. Manager Thomas Tuchel provided a harsh analysis on their performance in the recent weeks stating that the club cannot expect to win matches by repeating silly mistakes.ADVERTISEM

He lambasted the players bringing up references from their Champions League match against Real Madrid which they lost in aggregate after conceding two goals late in the game. Chelsea were 3-0 up for the majority of the match but had to bow out of the European competition despite winning the game.

Chelsea at the moment are in competition with Tottenham Hotspurs, Arsenal and Manchester United for two of the top four spots in the league..
